Susan
is England Ladies National Fly Fishing Champion. Having come so
close last year, losing by one fish to Kay Peet of Sheffield. This
year Sue romped home with a victory on Rutland Water on August 25th,
catching the ten fish limit by 4:30pm for a weight of 24lb 14oz
including time bonus.
Second and third place anglers, Mairi McFarlane and Wendy Miller,
both had four fish each. The winning tactic was to fish a slime line
(clear intermediate), using the washing line method, with a booby on
point and two diawl bach nymphs, with fish coming to all three
flies. Susan was fishing off green bank and the bunds in the South
Arm. |

For those of you who
have visited Rutland over the past few weeks will realise that the
water has been less than predictable, in fact hard at times. We
practiced the Friday and Saturday before the national and were only
able to catch on this method, and luckily it worked a treat on the
day. Thanks must go to Chris Leibrandt of Masterline for his
sponsorship and to John Marshall and his staff at Anglian Water. |
