International Loch-Style Rules

Maximum hook size - 5/8" overall length
Maximum dressing 15/16"
Maximum number of flies per cast - 4 (minimum 20" apart, only one of which may be a double hook.
Natural and artificial furs, feathers and materials.

Not Allowed:

Hooks and dressings exceeding above.
Non-buoyant heads
Artificial weighting
Tandem flies
Double hooks exceeding 90 degrees between the heads

Fly Lines

Lines may not be additionally weighted.
No form of shooting head is permitted.

Leaders

Braided leaders are permitted
Leaders may not be artificially weighted.

5.

Boats

Drogues 60" square maximum size.
Drogues may be fixed to either side.
A single G-clamp may be used if required.
Thwart boards are allowed. The total height of which may not exceed more than 3" above the gunwales.

Fishing Styles

Both anglers fishing downwind (forward direction of the boat)
Each angler had 90 degrees of fishing forward of the boat
Both anglers must remain seated during casting and retrieving flies.
An angler may stand to finally play and land a fish.
Command of boat changes every 2 hours or as mutually agreed.
The "Captain" of the boat decides positions and where to fish.
No boat shall be closer than 50 yards from another boat or bank angler.

Boatman

Boats must go where requested by "Captain" of boat.
Are allowed to net and kill fish if requested by either angler.
Are permitted to beach boats for WC purposes.
Must stay within the start are before the signal to commence the match.
Must be within the finish are prior to the signal to end the match.
Must not cast, retrieve or play a fish.
Must not give flies to or coach either competitor.
Must clearly identify each competitor's catch and accompany to the scales.

Strictly Forbidden

Lead lines and shooting heads.
Anchoring or wedging boat on underwater obstructions.
Fishing in restricted areas.
Movement of boat with oars while competitors are fishing.
discarding nylon or rubbish of any kind.
Trolling.
Mobile phones, fish finders, echo sounders and communication devices.
Chemicals and light emitting substances.
The 'roly poly' retrieve.

9.

Fly Rods

Rods must not exceed 12 feet in length.
Two rods may be taken aboard a boat but only one may be made up. The other rod must be unassembled at all times.

Tradition

Fishing shall be carried out respecting the spirit and traditions of our sport.
